The Broad Foundation supports The New York City Department of Education’s “School of One” in its mission to break with K–12 education’s traditional teacher-student model by creating a dynamic, individualized learning environment for every student. Each student has a unique, personalized schedule comprised of a tailored mix of group sessions, lectures with live teachers, computer-assisted self-paced learning, and work with virtual tutors, all of which has been mapped out based on a combination of the student’s learning preferences and previous performance.
ROCKETSHIP EDUCATION

Rocketship Education, a Silicon Valley-based charter management organization, is the nation's most successful example of school-level integration of technology. Using a hybrid education model, Rocketship’s goal is to reduce operating costs while working to eliminate the achievement gap for low-income and minority students. The Broad Foundation supports Rocketship's plan to expand by formalizing leadership development and building software to track student performance data.
