The Broad Prize is an annual award to honor large school districts that demonstrate the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement while reducing achievement gaps among low-income and minority students. Broad Prize scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors in the finalist and winning districts who demonstrate a record of academic improvement during their high school careers and who have a financial need.

A key element in its transformation has been the creation of a cohesive performance management system to maximize the potential of the district’s human and capital resources.
CHARTER SCHOOL GROWTH FUND

The Broad Foundation supports the Charter School Growth Fund’s (CSGF) loan pool, which provides facility financing to charter schools. Loans through CSGF are provided at better rates and with faster turnarounds than charters can find on their own. The facilities fund is expected to provide millions of dollars in facilities financing to ventures through the refinancing of loans and the recycling of capital to new lenders over the fund’s 10-year lifetime. CSGF estimates that this fund will create tens of thousands of seats for charter management organizations across the country.

The Broad Foundation supports Chicago Public Schools in its efforts to develop an improved school-based performance management system and a human capital management system. The performance management system will provide real-time student-level information for teachers, principals and area superintendents that will inform decision-making and allow for timely, targeted interventions. The human capital management system will help the district support, attract and retain high-quality teachers, principals and other employees.

The foundation also supports the ground-breaking collective bargaining agreement between DCPS and The Washington Teachers Union.
